Coach Education

Only coaches who have completed the Keeping the School in School Sport program and are registered on the NSSAF database are eligible to coach in NSSAF Regional or Provincial competition .

Principals can confirm the status of their Coaches through the NSSAF website.

When a Principal logs in a link to their school appears on the right hand side of the site.

Clicking on that link will generate a list of coaches registered in that school.

This program is one of the first of its` kind in Canada and one of which the NSSAF is proud. The role of the coach in delivering educationally sound learning experiences to student – athletes is paramount andKeeping the School in School Sport” is the foundation upon which interscholastic athletics is built.

For more information visit the NSSAF website or contact your local NSSAF District Coordinator or Regional Director.

A new website -- Coaching Nova Scotia ---has been launched by the Department of Health and Wellness to provide improved information around coaching education in Nova Scotia. The site also provides information about the NCCP multi sport coaching modules. This site replaces the old site that was hosted on the government of NS web site and allows coaches to directly register online for all classroom NCCP coaching courses. The delivery process for web based home study NCCP courses has also been improved.  Visit:

Making Head Way Concussion eLearning Series
Designed to help you gain the knowledge and skills required to ensure the safety of your athletes, these NCCP Professional Development modules cover: what to do to prevent concussions, how to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion, what to do when you suspect an athlete has a concussion, and how to ensure athletes return to play safely. The sport-specific modules offer coaches scenarios specific to their sport, while the general sports module will suit all other coaches.
To begin, you will require an NCCP Coaching Certification Number (CC#). If you have never taken an NCCP course and need a CC#, please register with The Locker. You should expect to spend 60-90 minutes completing a module. The course fee is 15.00. Each completed module will be recorded on your coaching transcript as professional development.
This is recommended training for all NSSAF Coaches (approved at the NSSAF Board of Governors meeting, November 15, 2013).
